The internet was blown away when this photo was released. Flooded with comments of disapproval, people were pissed. My initial reaction was harsh too, but then I thought about how we (Americans) blindly support companies that exploit black and brown bodies all the time— but we are enraged when companies admit their true intention? That’s some serious cognitive dissonance. This is the sports industry, and it’s always been this way. The western world brands black bodies for profit, and Americans love it, we invest in it, glorify it— but the truth is too much? Interesting.
